Monday evening between 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Maximum 8 places available.
This course will run on Mondays from 10th October to 14thNovember.
During the course you will be given guidance in relation to different projects. This will include how to make pinched, coiled and slab built forms, and how to use these techniques to make a vase.
Demonstrations will be given on how to use a potter’s wheel and you will be able to use the wheel to make your own bowl. You will be shown surface decoration and painting techniques before applying them to the forms you have created. Your finished pieces will be fired in our kiln and will be ready for you to collect 2 weeks after the course has finished.
Price £225
Price is inclusive of all material, glazing and firing.
Week 1 – Pinch pots and coil building
You will be shown how to pinch and coil clay and then use these techniques to make a small vessel.
Week 2 – Introduction to slab building
Students will design and start their main project, by rolling all the slabs they need for their vessels – a vessel of up to 22cm high. A variety of templates will be available to choose from or you may decide to bring your own.
Week 3 – Complete the slab build
Attach all the slabs and bring to life the pot you designed. Also add any surface decoration and make it ready for the kiln.
Week 4 & 5 – Wheel throwing session combined with an introduction to painting your fired pieces
You will divided into 2 groups of 4. Half of the group will be given the opportunity to throw on a potters wheel and shown how to centre the clay, open and pull the sides and hopefully you will have thrown a small bowl.
The other 4 participants will be able to start painting some of their fired pieces and will be able to use the potters wheel the following week.
